Expectations:
The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a frontline perioperative registered nurse leader who functions in an expanded role, working in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes and improve efficiency of operations. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care through the continuum of perioperative care, including preoperative, intraoperative surgeon assistance, and postoperative care for all patient populations. Functions as an RN first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures, while maintaining the ability to function in additional roles including but not limited to circulating nurse, surgical scrub, and PFC when required. The RNFA does not concurrently function as an assistant and a surgical scrub or circulating RN. Maintains practice in accordance with organizational standardized procedures, scope of practice, credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification. This position requires flexibility of hours.

The RNFA role exists to provide opportunity for surgical assistant practice over a period of two years to support achievement of certification requirements for progression to the CRNFA role.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree required or in progress at time of hire with completion within 24 months of hire.
AORN approved RNFA certificate of program completion required.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Minimum five years OR experience with combination of scrub and circulating experience required.
Experience in preoperative and postoperative patient care and pathway development preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)
Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
Current Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) issued by the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI)

Leadership capabilities. Ability to function as mentor to circulating nurses, surgical technicians, and other RNFA candidates. Sets standards for quality-of-care delivery and holds others accountable to expectations.

Pay Range: The estimated base rate for this position is $59.91 - $91.37.
Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.

At Huntington Health, we offer a highly competitive pay structure that is more rewarding than organizations that offer straight pay. Our compensation reflects the following premium structure for every shift:

- Base rate paid for the first 8 hours of work in a day

- 1.5x overtime pay for hours 8-12 worked in a workday.

- 2x double-time pay for any hours beyond 12 in a workday

This ensures that employees are fairly compensated for the full length of their shift, with enhanced pay as their workday progresses. The estimated blended hourly rate, accounting for these premiums on a 12-hour shift, ranges from $69.90 to $106.60.

How do I apply?

What information do I need to complete an application? How long will it take?

You will need your personal contact information, educational background information, and employment history. It can take approximately 25–30 minutes to complete an online application.

What if I am interested in several positions, do I need to complete an application for each one?

Yes, you do need to submit an application for each employment opportunity that you are interested in. The good news is that once you submit the first application, our applicant tracking system saves all of your information in your account. When you apply for another position, click "Use My Last Application". After you log in to your account, the system will auto populate the current application with the information from your last application, which can then be modified if needed.

What if I forgot my password?

On the sign in page, click on the "Forgot your password?" link. Enter the email you used to create the account and click the "Reset Password" button. An email will be sent with reset instructions.

How can I verify that my application has been received?

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your online application. You can also confirm the receipt by signing into your account and clicking the Candidate Home tab on the top right of the screen. Once your application is received, it will be listed under the Submitted Applications section.

Who do I contact to check the status of my application?

You can check the status of your application by signing into your account and clicking the Candidate Home tab on the top right of the screen. Under the Submitted Applications section, you can see all the jobs you have applied to and the current status.

After submitting an application, how long does the process take? Will someone contact me?

Once you complete an online application, we will review your application in a timely manner and contact you if your application is selected for further consideration. We are unable to contact every applicant due to the heavy application volume that we receive. However, you can check the status of your application by signing into your account and clicking the Candidate Home tab on the top right of the screen. Under the Submitted Applications section, you can see all the jobs you have applied to and the current status.

What does your pre-employment screening process entail?

After an offer of employment is extended and accepted, a comprehensive background investigation will be conducted. Once we receive the results, you will then be scheduled for a health audit. Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of the background investigation, health audit, and drug screen. Huntington Health requires that all new employees receive a flu vaccine when seasonally available and may require other vaccines such as COVID-19 as a condition of employment, subject to medical exemption or religious accommodation.
