Expectations:

The Perioperative Department Educational Supervisor coordinates staff training, onboarding, and orientation in the preop, postop, preadmitting, and surgery departments with an emphasis on clinical excellence, quality, and efficient operations. Acts as the liaison for perioperative areas and the education department to effectively implement organizational education initiatives in the perioperative areas. Supports and enforces established departmental policies and procedures, standards, objectives, quality improvement and auditing initiatives, safety, environment of care and infection control guidelines. This position has oversight of educational coordinators in both operating room and pre/postop care areas, as well as oversight and support of multiple clinical coordinators in the operating room. Performs perioperative-related duties as needed. Assists nurses in perioperative areas with challenging issues to support efficient and excellent coordination of patient care. This position requires flexibility of hours. EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN required. Master’s degree in education or health care related field preferred. EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: Minimum five years acute care surgical services (preop, pacu, or operating room) experience required, which must include a minimum of three years operating room experience. Trauma experience highly preferred. Advanced computer skills/experience with computerized documentation systems and office applications, required. Leadership experience preferred. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Required: Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider (PALS) issued by American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire/transfer Preferred: Current Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD) Current Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) Current Certified Post-Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) Current Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (CAPA) SKILLS: • Demonstrates leadership and management skills and abilities; excellent interpersonal relationship skills. • Demonstrates flexibility when faced with a fast-paced and changing work environment. • Is a proactive team player and enjoys working in a collaborative work setting. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Exemplary communication, organization, and problem solving skills. • Ability to manage multiple activities and priorities within complex systems. • Ability to work with all levels of personnel to achieve positive patient outcomes. • Competency to utilize computer systems including Health Information System and Office applications at an intermediate level is expected.
